AIMS ProAV Working Group To Unveil IPMX Standards And Specifications For AV Over IP

At Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2020, the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS) ProAV Working Group will introduce Internet Protocol Media Experience (IPMX), a set of open standards and specifications designed to enable carriage of compressed and uncompressed video, audio and data-over-IP networks. IPMX addresses the commercial AV industry’s need for a single set of common, ubiquitous standards-based protocols that ensure interoperability for AV over IP. The AIMS stand (15-B250) will feature information and technical sessions covering every aspect of IPMX.

“IPMX implements a standards-based approach based on SMPTE ST 2110, with features and capabilities that target the specific needs of the ProAV industry,” David Chiappini, Chair of the AIMS ProAV Working Group, said. “As manufacturers build IPMX support into their products, end users and integrators can be assured that those products truly conform to an interoperable and open standard for AV over IP.”

In addition to simplifying implementation of SMPTE ST 2110 and ensuring interoperability for AV-over-IP systems, IPMX will incorporate further features tailored to commercial AV installations. These features include AMWA NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 for discovery, registration and connection management, as well as specifications for copy protection and security.

IPMX is the result of the AIMS ProAV Working Group’s efforts to define an open-standards approach to addressing the move toward IP media. The working group’s approach for commercial AV follows AIMS’ broader efforts with the broadcast/media industry—namely, to promote multi-vendor interoperability that will foster long-term protection of customers’ investments in technology and products.
