COMQI PARTNERS WITH PATH INTELLIGENCE
ComQi (Linden NJ), born from the merger of Minicom Digital Signage and EnQii, is partnering with Path Intelligence Inc. (Portsmouth, United Kingdom), which owns proprietary technology that detects and predicts how shoppers and visitors will behave within enclosed environments such as malls, retail stores, transportation hubs and stadiums. Path Intelligence captures data on shoppers by passively and anonymously observing the movement of their mobile phones. The firm provides customized information on how many shoppers there are by department, how long they dwell, how frequently they come back, which stores they visit during their mall trip and how the full path-to-purchase (and beyond) is mapped. Currently, Path Intelligence is working with US retailers J.C. Penney and Home Depot, as well as a number of UK retailers and mall management companies.
ComQi and Path Intelligence will work to provide retailers with detailed analytics on general shopper behavior in the store, as well as specific analytics linked to digital signage. According to the companies, the Path Intelligence system can be used to optimize digital signage installations and measure engagement at the screen level.
"Path Intelligence's footpath data provides retailers with expanded metrics and quantitative performance by department, enabling management to optimize operations, labor allocations and store layouts," said Sharon Biggar, Path Intelligence CEO. "We are excited to be working with ComQi to bring these, as well as other new features, to the US retail marketplace."
"We wanted to work with Path Intelligence to bring the power of online analytics to the physical shopping experience," offered ComQi's North American Managing Director, Stuart Armstrong. "The powerful data and analytics provided by Path Intelligence make ROI measurement and deeper consumer data-capture a reality for retailers."
Advising the Path Intelligence/ComQi partnership are The Jeffrey Group (Jeff McElnea, formerly of Einson-Freeman/WPP Group) and Edgewood Industries (George Wishart, formerly of The Nielsen Company).

QMOD-HDSC HDTV Scaler Modulator for Digital Signage Shipping
Available now, the QMOD-HDSC HDTV Scaler Modulator features an internal, in-stream HD scaler for digital signage applications. First, the scaler converts signage VGA to 16:9 HDTV video. Easy two-step formatting shapes the video and compensates for cropping for perfect edge-to-edge presentation on TV displays. Then high speed encoders and processors convert the video into a standard HDTV digital cable channel. This enables a single signage player to broadcast to many displays across a site's RF network. Flat-panel TVs include an HD tuner, so playback at each screen is free. No additional players, servers, or licenses are needed.
Setup of the QMOD-HDSC is simple, using the front-panel text setup menus. Select the RGB or Component input, and the HDSC automatically locks into the PC resolution. Tweak the horizontal and vertical image to fit the TV screen, set the channel number, audio inputs and a few other attributes, and you're ready to add the channel to your system.
Made in the USA by Contemporary Research, the QMOD-HDSC can be mixed other QMOD-HD, QMOD-SDI HDTV modulators and QCA9-33 Active Combiner to create a custom, multi-media in-house RF broadcast system.

BICSI, PSA SECURITY NETWORK PROMOTE ELECTRONIC SAFETY, SECURITY TRAINING
BICSI (Tampa FL) the association supporting the information technology systems (ITS) industry with information, education and knowledge assessment, has partnered with PSA Security Network(PSA, Westminster CO), the electronic security cooperative representing security system integrators, to promote training and credentialing for the electronic safety and security systems industry.
Electronic safety and security technology is evolving rapidly and has integrated beyond the network grid. Fast-paced change, coupled with the need for industry professionals who have the educational knowledge about the entire industry, has led to the partnership between BICSI and PSA, the groups stated. BICSI's security credential, the Electronic Safety and Security (ESS) Designer, with background in IP convergence, IP video surveillance, access control and intrusion detection systems, assists with providing security, protection and life safety-based systems.
"This partnership is an essential step toward increasing the visibility and knowledge of both organizations' education, training and credentialing in the field of electronic safety and security," said BICSI President Brian Hansen, RCDD, NTS, CSI.
"We are delighted to have a partnership with BICSI," stated PSA President/CEO Bill Bozeman, CPP, CHS. "Our integrators are focusing more and more on network-based technology, and the educational advantages BICSI has to offer in this space are second to none."
Some of the cooperative activities will include co-marketing the security programs of each organization, highlighting PSA's security-related educational opportunities and BICSI's ESS Design credential, as well as related courses and publications. In addition, the agreement allows for reciprocal coverage in the organizations' industry publications, and booth space and speaking opportunities at both BICSI and PSA's conferences. |

Visionary Solutions adds customization capabilities to AVN series encoders
Visionary Solutions’ best-of-breed IPTV encoding solutions offer easy integration with any existing or new Pro A/V system, and the latest enhancements to its AVN series encoders takes flexibility and cost-effectiveness to another level.
Designed for use in the company’s flagship Media Processing Platform chassis/blade systems, a new order fulfillment scheme enables the customization of AVN series encoders, empowering integrators to buy modules with the exact features they require. Other encoding solutions are frequently sold off the shelf with preconfigured feature sets ─ but firmware installed on the AVN blades for each order
gives users the flexibility to upgrade as needed, and never pay for unnecessary features.
The company’s AVN422, AVN441, and AVN443 encoders are now available in both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) configurations. However, the new customization options also enable simple field upgrades, so SD modules can easily be upgraded to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p HD with simple software updates when the time comes. The three Visionary Solutions AVN models now produce more than 20 orderable configurations.

SENNHEISER FILES LAWSUITS AGAINST COUNTERFEITERS
On September 20, 2011, Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co.KG and Sennheiser Electronic Corp. (Wedemark, Germany/Old Lyme, CT) filed its first wave of federal lawsuits in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The lawsuits target a number of Internet based pirates and counterfeiters located throughout the United States who are engaged in the sale of counterfeit Sennheiser branded merchandise.
The lawsuits have been filed against a variety of individuals and business entities that are conducting business throughout the United States in locations including New York, Virginia, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Florida. The filed complaints demand substantial damages in the form of declaratory relief and injunctive relief, along with all attorney's fees and costs against counterfeiters. Sennheiser has identified more than 100 other domestic pirates--along with numerous domestic websites--which are targeted for further enforcement operations.
Sennheiser began the counterfeit enforcement campaign after recognizing an increase of warranty returns and complaints about Sennheiser-branded products. Further investigation determined that the complaints originated from consumers who purchased their Sennheiser products online; often from a website based in China, or from a domestic eBay seller who acquired the counterfeit merchandise from a Chinese wholesaler of counterfeit products.
"Sennheiser will vigorously defend the Sennheiser brand name, representing premium quality and performance, by taking action against counterfeiters and ensuring our customers know how to avoid purchasing counterfeit products," said John Falcone, President/CEO of Sennheiser Electronic Corporation. "Customers are urged to purchase only from authorized Sennheiser dealers."
